So remember all of the weird and suspicious stuff happening? Things are finally culminating into a movement. Your character will now be approached by the NPCs that were registering their fields and/or watching (usually noticeably) from afar.

There are two groups that are in action in Japan. And your character will be approached by recruiters from Septimal Moon and recruiters from Independents. Here is some out of character context for these different groups:

Septimal Moon is an extremely organized group. They are centralized in the middle of Japan (in an undisclosed location) and you can expect the following from recruiters of Septimal Moon:
  • They are much more common closer to the middle of Japan. Reference where your character lives, because if they're closer to Kanto and Chubu then they will see Septimal Moon members very quickly and very often.

  • There's no uniform, but Septimal Moon members and recruiters will be dressed to impress. Sometimes that means suits, or just very nice clothing. They're setting themselves apart.

  • They are extremely persistent. Even if you reject them, they will pester you again later in the day and the week. Think a really persistent bill collector.

  • They generally promise security, and promise to provide room, food and board if you're willing to come with them. They promise that they can train your character to be able to fight with Word Spell.

Independents are individuals or small groups of pairs local to the area. Unlike Septimal Moon, Independents don't actually work on a country-wide scale aside from meeting up every now and then (which is something they will bring up). You can expect the following from recruiters of local Independents:
  • Unlike Septimal Moon, Independents are all over Japan. However, they aren't as organized - in an area where Septimal Moon holds more prominence, Independents don't have the room to move about freely and likely won't be the first to reach one of the Bondless for recruitment.

  • Unlike Septimal Moon recruiters, Independents seem to just be wearing clothes from their daily lives. School uniforms, casual wear, some people appear to have more money than others, et cetera. They don't hold a calm demeanor like Septimal Moon recruiters, and actually do have a predatory look about them when they're persistent.

  • They're persistent as well, but in a different way. They're much more likely to promise help up front, offering phone numbers so that they can come help rather than holding the rewards up until they receive loyalty. They'll be trying to win over characters through sheer charisa.

  • The Independents loudly and proudly preach their ideals of personal freedoms. They offer camaraderie rather than providing a living for you - you're strong and able-bodied and able-minded, you don't need a damn babysitter! But they'll offer to scratch your back with the expectation that you'll want to scratch theirs. If you start to fall in line with Septimal Moon, they'll be much more prone to aggression.

If you have any questions regarding the setting and these two groups, feel free to ask them here. The log will also allow for characters to interrogate the recruiters themselves, which is where a lot of the questions will be answered... but if you have confusion regarding their approach/the likeliness of the situation/the location/etc you are perfectly free to ask us.
