December AC

Basic and Bonus AC open on January 1 at midnight EST and stay open until Wednesday, January 7 at midnight EST.

Basic AC Requirements

Basic AC is 1 post or 20 comments (between two threads at most) to prove you have been active. These threads must be dated for the AC month. If you have been accepted after the 20th of the month, just check in.

Bonus Activity

So, you may be wondering "hey wait a leveling system? What for?", when reading this post or either of the FAQs. But this is meant to be a reward system to allow for people to gain points. People that are better at adhering to exploring setting details will have characters that are better at fighting within the setting.

Put simply, players will be able to submit threads of their characters working with their new-found magic in order to "gain levels". This way, characters that have been through a dozen battles will be significantly more practiced than freshly introduced characters.

Every qualifying thread will be rewarded with a "Beat", and a certain number of successful requirement threads will allow the character to gain one "Point". There are only three stats in the game, and only two will ever apply to your character! The stats are as follows:
Perception: The Sacrifice-only stat that measures a Sacrifice's ability to discover the enemy's weakness, to perceive their own team's status, and to effectively lead their Fighter in battle (or out of it!)
Wordspell: The Fighter-only stat that measures a Fighter's ability to cohesively string together powerful spells through good imagery, vocabulary, and precision.
Bond: The stat that both players level together, the Bond measures how strong the team's defenses are in how well the Fighter is able to defend their Sacrifice and how much the Sacrifice is able (and willing) to endure for their Fighter.

Well, okay, those are odd. How are you supposed to implement these points? What's the point of the Points? (Heh.) Well, they exist as a guideline: generally, if a team has overall a similar amount of points as their opponent, the victor is a bit up in the air. There's certain Stats that do better against other stats, which may also come into play. They play a sort of Rock-Paper-Scissors role off of each other when it comes to a tie (or a very close number), which is as follows:
•A good Bond will surpass the enemy's Wordspell - the defending team will be secure enough to endure the enemy's attacks.
•Strong Wordspell will overwhelm the enemy Sacrifice's Perception, binding them quickly and forcing them into defending rather than seeing through to attack.
•High Perception will find the slightest hidden weaknesses in a Bond, allowing the Fighter to pinpoint and target what weakness the enemy is desperately hiding.

The roshambo element will do no good if your opponent's stats are three or more higher than yours, in the end, but a Fighter with 1 level of Wordspell can handle a Sacrifice with 2 levels of Perception if the Bond isn't strong enough to affect the fight.

Even so, the numbers are a loose guide. In the end, it is ultimately up to all players involved how well everyone is battling, or who should win or lose. The numbers simply show which characters put in the greatest efforts to progress as a fighting pair, as well as unlocking certain in-character perks such as gaining a True Name (the good ol' -LESS name, if you're not a ZERO!) or gaining a bizarre special ability related to the -LESS name (ex., in canon "Faceless" has the ability to have their faces immediately forgotten once they leave a room). In the end, these points are meant to prove who cares about the word spell battling and who isn't as invested, thus not allowing for a lucky genius who's only been in a couple battles to trump more veteran battlers.

Leveling Perception/Wordspell
You will need to be linking threads of your character practicing skills relevant to their Stat. Threads that qualify for the stat are threads that:
•Shows the character participating in a Word Spell battle.
•For Perception, a thread that shows the Sacrifice looking for weaknesses in the opponent, retaining focus despite painful Restrictions, or studying the opponent outside of battle for use in battle later.
•For Wordspell, a thread that shows the Fighter finding a clever and personalized style in their spells, understanding and following the judgment of the Sacrifice, or practicing significantly expanding their vocabulary and visualization to prepare for a fight.
•Each thread may only be linked once, and cannot be a thread used for Required AC.
•There is no comment number requirement, but we will be reading these threads: explain the landmark and link a thread that has accomplished something!
•There is also no required date - if it took you a few months to get something done, or you forgot an older thread, then you are free to use it.

The scale for leveling up the Perception/Wordspell stat is as follows:
•5 Beats (five qualifying threads) are needed to reach Levels 1-3
•6 Beats (six qualifying threads) are needed to reach Levels 4-6
•7 Beats (seven qualifying threads) are needed to reach Levels 7-9
•9 Beats (nine qualifying threads) are needed to reach level 10.
•Wordspell and Perception are currently maximized at Level 10.

Add the following to the end of your AC to qualify for Perception/Wordspell Beats:

Leveling The Bond
You AND your partner will be sharing this number. Either one of you may submit threads to qualify, given that the threads ARE NOT the threads that either of you has used to pass Required Activity Check. Threads that qualify for the bond are threads that:
•Show the characters reaching new levels of trust and understanding of one another. Sharing secrets, admitting their feelings, and gaining a deeper understanding of one another lead to stronger bonds.
•Characters enduring a conflict together, be it related to spell battle and the mystery or be it some conflict in their personal lives.

The scale for leveling up the Bond stat is as follows, including important "landmarks":
•3 Beats (three qualifying threads) become 1 Point. The Point total is shared between the two players.
•You can have more than one Bond, but you can only submit for one bond each AC.
•Once the pair reaches Level 7, they will gain their -LESS name (unless they are ZERO). Both players must post the thread before qualifying for their -LESS name. They will gain the thread that binds the two of them together, which is why the True Name can now appear on them. They now cannot gain Bond Points with any other character.
•Between levels 7 and 10, characters will now require 4 Beats to gain a Point.
•Once the pair reaches Level 10, they will gain an additional magical effect related to their True Name.
•The Bond is currently maximized at Level 10.

Add the following to the end of your AC to qualify for Bond Beats:
